We have been busy fulfilling orders and then also replenishing the baskets we have in all of our local merchant’s stores. I am so grateful for the local people who are willing to help us out and really want to see Makers Bread succeed. We actually set up a booth at the SLHS Arts & Crafts Festival in London, KY this past weekend. We met many wonderful people. Many of them shared with us, that they had purchased our bread at various locations and really loved it. As I got a little rest on Monday, I began to think about where Makers Bread is going and then I began pondering on where it’s already been in its infancy. Just so happened that I received a phone order yesterday and was told that this time, the Banana Walnut and the Amish Friendship Bread would be traveling to Mississipi to the callers Grandparents home. Not too long ago, I received another call from a local pastor (Reverend Danny Smith). He mentioned that he had taken some of the smaller loaves all the way to the Amazon Jungle and managed to share some with a local Amazonian man. He told me that the Amazonian man had said “I like American bread!” We both shared a laugh as the Pastor had done his best impersonation of his experience. Proverbs 17:22 states that a merry heart is like good medicine but a broken spirit will dry up the bones. I still laugh when thinking about it. As of this blogomony (blog+testimony), Makers Bread has been filling bellies and touching hearts in 5 states and it can only get better!

We made the News!

My thought process was I am starting a business; it wasn’t until about 3 weeks ago I realized that this was a ministry in itself. I couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that it was so simple and I didn’t even “get it”. It’s that with each loaf of bread that’s purchased or given as a gift, that the Word of God goes forth. I have seen with my own eyes someone read the scripture from the delicious bread and the Word “touch” them immediately. Talk about scripture coming to life: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4!

We didn’t solicit Times Tribune to do a story, but God did. I was pregnant with my second child and something on the inside of me started wanting to stay at home and raise my babies. Financially speaking that seemed nearly impossible or at best create some financial obstacles that appeared way to big for me to want to play with in my mind. Besides, I was making a considerable amount of money working for an international banking company. So, it was easy to put aside those feelings and desires and keep on the daily grind of life. As time passed, the dream never really went away but intensified. I was talking with close friends, my hubby, and family more and more about longing to be at home. I guess in a way, I was looking for approval and looking for more reasons I should be at home. When a dream is on the inside of you, something you want so badly, something's gotta give. I began to search the Bible and pray more fervently about God's will for my life. Also during that time, my job got extremely intense, my manager and co-workers began to make my work life difficult for me. Being a Christian and not laughing at the "dirty jokes" or other similiar things apparently made me very unpopular and labeled "overly sensitive". I was forbidden to say something as simple as "God bless you" if someone sneezed because I was offending my manager and co-workers. To make it official, my manager had to make it official by making me meet with the Personel department. So needless to say, it wasn't long before I was terminated. In a way, it was a breath of fresh air once I left. Yep, there I was, at home with my babies, not quite how I had anticipated it would go down. Haha! But....never the less, it's been more than I could imagine. Let me say, I had never been fired before, but this divine termination came with severance pay, paid insurance, and unemployment. Jesus, you are awesome!

There was another dream on the inside of me, really it had been suppressed behind the staying at home dream. This dream however was being an entrepreneur, wow, how scary is that? I recognized God was trying to help me birth out more of my destiny. Yeah, God has this big plan for your life, we just have to seek it out.

I had thought about making candy and opening a store, in my mind, it would smell great and it looked so great. It really wasn't in my heart, but a mental concept. Since I was a stay at home momma, officially, I had alot more time and energy to pray, fast, and really seek the Lord for what God was stirring inside of me. It just so happened one night, God gave me dream of exactly what to do and how to do it. The light had turned on, revelation came. The Lord showed me bread and then told me in the dream to attach scripture. I hadn't had an opportunity to discuss with anyone. Honestly, I was still rolling the idea in my head, because to me this was huge and seemed strange. Here's the kicker, I was visiting my sister and she says to me that God had laid some scripture on her heart for me. I was immediately curious so I turn to the scripture and it talks about bread and to not be afraid to sow. (Ecclesiastes 11) Once I heard the scripture, I knew this was something God was wanting me to do. This was in 2007. During that time, I was being challenged to step out into faith and sow into various ministries while being educated on Firstfruits and tithing. Trust me, I am still learning, but it's extremely signicant as I now am seeing the benefits to these principals. I had always had a heart to yield to the Holy Spirit and never really had an issue about giving, but if you don't realize God wants us to have an expectation when we sow with offerings and tithing (Malachi 3:10). Then...He can get glory when He does the impossible or he extends your finances so that your family is provided for. He's way too cool! So the faith journey has began. God just supernaturally showed me how to get this God given dream off the ground and even how to attach His Word to our delicious gourmet bread. Honestly, I am not that great of a cook, but He just so happened to be preparing a baker for me. I should say a really good all-in-all cook but her love is to bake and she just so happened to be my sister Barbara.

Interesting how God works it all out. He knew my inabilities and He sent me someone to help me make this dream come true. With God all things are possible.

So finally in February 2009, we sold our first Gourmet Gift Basket at Valentine's Day and then we sold another one, and then another one. We are on this journey and Makers Bread has certainly seen the favor of the Lord. People love the gourmet bread all the way down to the God designed packaging. It's phenominal when I get a minute think about it all. Your probably saying, how did you get scripture on the bread. Well, easy enough, we hand cut tags, then apply scripture to the tag attaching at the bread tie or on our 1lb loaves of the most delicious bread you have ever eaten, we print on the labels. It's simple, really and the best thing is Makers Bread is filling your stomach with homemade gourmet bread and our customers are filling their soul with the life sustaining Word Of God.
